Mimi's is now Stars Bistro
At Stars Bistro (formally Mimi’s) you need not sing for your supper. The staff does that for you. Stars Bistro is the only upscale eatery in the region, that features talented singing servers; all of whom are friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and they are as diverse as the cast of Rent. From the grand piano to the “stars” pictures adorning the walls, to the lush, burgundy drapes… the ambiance is relaxing and intimate, yet filled with the magic of Broadway. The menu has a Lebanese/Mediterranean influence but is also decidedly American. Most of the food is organic and is always fresh. Everything you eat is specially prepared for you. We auditioned several appetizers. The lightly battered calamari with a spicy tomato coulis was delicious. Hummus served with warm pita, and fava bean falafel with a host of exotic extras: tahini, beets, pickles, parsley and tomatoes were an opening act that would make Anthony Hopkins mutter “ff ff fff, Agent Starling”. We had a chilled Lebanese Sauvignon Blanc in lieu of “a nice Chianti”, which mellowed our mood nicely for Act II. Risotto, with a supporting cast of scallops, shrimps, chorizo, oven-dried tomatoes and spinach bathing in a lobster broth made sweet Charlotte hush, hush and sigh with pleasure. Mouth-watering Rainbow Trout was garnished beautifully with shiitake mushrooms on a bed of broccolini and potato gnocchi- great combination of flavors. For the meat lover: Stars Bistro’s signature burgers pull out all the stops. We chose one topped with avocado and mozzarella; seductive and succulent and “melt in your mouth”- not only a duo of delight, a singular sensation. The Final Curtain: Dessert. Among the many stars sharing the spotlight… Chocolate soufflé, daring and delightful with a warm liquid center that would satisfy Willie’s Wonka. Total decadence in its own right. Chocolate mousse nestling in a chocolate shell was truly wicked. And key lime pie, with its homemade crust was worthy of a standing O! Rating: A DOUBLE DULEY DO! We want an encore! Joe’s favorite: Risotto Charlotte’s favourite: Chocolate soufflé
